Ways To Prolong The Life Of Your Sports Watch
Some sports watch provide you with more than just the time and date. There are those that pack in sophisticated features like a compass, heart rate monitor and multiple alarms. They simply are an indispensable item for those who are into sports or gadget freaks.
Sure their looks give them this certain bulletproof appeal. However, even sports watches need some form of caring and maintenance. If you own one and wish to prolong its life, read on. The way you care for your timepiece will have an impact on how long it'll be around of use.
Sure there are replacement straps easily purchasable at timepiece stores or on the net. But proper caring of your wristwatch's straps will make them last for a long time. For polyurethane straps, you can use damp cloth for cleaning. Cleaning them with soft-bristled toothbrush, soap and water will also be okay. Refrain from exposing them to extreme changes in temperature.
Some sports watches come with leather straps. If such is the case of your wristwatch, then the straps require the same caring as an elegant leather watch. Minimize exposure to direct sunlight, sweat, and salt and hard water. If the straps get wet, gently rub down with a clean cloth, and let them air dry.
Just because your wristwatch is shock resistant doesn't mean you can treat it carelessly. While your sports watch may be constructed with shock absorbent fittings, try not to put it to the test. Avoid dropping or banging it against a hard surface. The mechanism will break down, especially when repeatedly exposed to unwanted shocks.
A scratch-proof graphic lcd is not something that's shatter-proof. If you hit it hard against a protruding metal, concrete or any hard object, of course it will break. You can use either a dry or damp cloth for cleaning. But do avoid using harsh solvents or chemicals. Also, keep it from extreme heat or cold.
When you notice the led backlight begin to fade out or flicker, it doesn't necessarily call for alarm. Do not hit the timepiece over and over against your palm thinking that'll fix the problem. Oftentimes, it's just a worn out battery that's causing the backlighting problem. If such is the case, battery replacement is best done by a professional.
Finally, you must know that there's a difference between water-resistant and water-proof sports watches. Something that's water-resistant can take occasional water splashes. Something that's water-proof, on the other hand, is what you can use for bathing or swimming. But even if your timepiece is water-resistant, check the instruction manual. Sometimes it's okay to use it for wading in the pool, but not for scuba diving.
